Standing tall at 6’2, Roberto Canevari had childhood dreams of being a professional basketball player. Instead, he became a supply chain trailblazer in prestige beauty, fashion, and soap. As a college freshman in 1987, “supply chain” was not popular as a name or a career. However, he quickly fell in love with the field’s unique ability to bridge diverse technical skills and people from all walks of life. His love for supply chain work lies less in the result, but more on the journey of collaborative teamwork required to accomplish the collective goal. While he may have traded the basketball court for the manufacturing floor, he still believes in the power of teamwork as the game plan to win.
Message to the Supply Chain Community
“There is no shortage of challenges in our field of work. Yet, when under pressure, I lean on lessons I have learned from my favorite sport: basketball. Like a global supply chain, basketball requires every team member to work collaboratively and interchangeably to succeed. In basketball, title and pride must be set aside to secure the win. Likewise, to successfully navigate today’s complex supply chain landscape, it’s critical to work as a cohesive team. Lead with an adaptable and agile mindset, and you will accomplish your goals.”
